REGION OF ORIGIN East Anatolia MANUFACTURING PROCESS All our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep's wool yarn is spun and dyed by hand. The high lanolin content gives the high-quality sheep's wool a particularly beautiful sheen. A sheen that cannot be achieved with industrially produced yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim is woven by hand on a traditional wooden weaving frame. This process usually took several months, sometimes even over a year. CLEANING AND RESTORATION Our cleaning process is cyclical, in harmony with nature. Our carpets are only cleaned once a year at the beginning of summer. We only use water and pure olive soap for this. We then work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Antalya between June and September bleaches out stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Thanks to the power of nature, we can completely dispense with environmentally harmful chemicals. Our kilims are then mechanically dedusted and sent to Istanbul. In our studio in Sultanahmet, each rug is individually stretched into shape and the ends are reknotted using the Iranian knotting technique to prevent the fabric from unraveling. Holes and discolored areas are also restored true to the original. The complete cleaning and restoration process takes between six months and two years, depending on the kilim.
MATERIAL Sheep wool is a natural and very high quality material. All our carpets were woven from hand-spun sheep wool yarn, which consist of long hairs and have a very high content of lanolin (wool fat). This makes the wool particularly dirt resistant, water repellent and antibacterial. Sheep's wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier with use and the influence of sun, air and water over the years. A material that ages in beauty, is absolutely environmentally friendly and free of pollutants, cleans and regenerates itself. CARE With loving care and regular maintenance, a kilim from Wild Heart Free Soul will look like the first day even after many years of use. Genuine kilim thus outlast several generations. Our kilims do not require much care, but the right care. A kilim should be regularly and carefully vacuumed or beaten out. Stains can almost always be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be easily scraped off or brushed out when dried. A kilim should not stay wet for a long time, because it can warp. Therefore, we do not recommend washing it yourself. If you feel the need to give your kilim a wash, please contact a professional, trusted carpet cleaner or us. We offer discounted rates for carpet cleaning and restoration to all Wild Heart Free Soul customers.
