Vintage Kilim Anatolia 312x231cm
This original Kilim was hand-woven in Anatolia. It's made of hand spun, naturally dyed sheep wool. Before starting the weaving, the artist was shearing her sheep, cleaning, combing and spinning the wool to have the best yarn for her kilim. After spinning the wool she was dyeing it in a complex process with natural dyes. This whole process could take one year or even longer.
This woven piece of art is one-of-a-kind and was made for self use. Nomads and farmers were using their kilims as rugs on the floor, as tent or wall hangings, as covers or transportation bags. The pattern and symbols on kilims always have special meanings. They are standing for protection, blessings, abundance or the unity of lovers.
All Wild Heart Free Soul kilims are cleaned in a natural way and restored professionally under our guidance and control. We guarantee for authenticity, high quality and fair trade.

PRODUCTION PROCESS
All our vintage kilims and carpets are entirely handmade. The sheep wool yarn was hand-spun and dyed. Due to its high lanolin content, the high-quality sheep wool shines particularly beautifully. A sheen that cannot be achieved with industrially produced yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim was hand-woven on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually took several months, sometimes even over a year.
CLEANING AND RESTORATION
Our cleaning process is cyclical, in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned only once a year at the beginning of summer. For this, we use only water and pure olive soap. Afterwards, we use the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Antalya between June and September bleaches out stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial, and keeps moths and insects away. Through the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals.
Subsequently, our kilims are mechanically dusted and sent to Istanbul. In our atelier in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted using the Iranian knot technique so that the weave cannot unravel. In addition, holes and discolored areas are faithfully restored. The complete cleaning and restoration process takes between six months and two years, depending on the kilim.
Material
Sheep wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep wool yarn, which consists of long hairs and has a very high lanolin (wool grease) content. This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent and antibacterial.
Sheep wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years through use and the influence of sun, air and water. It is a material that ages gracefully, is absolutely environmentally friendly and free of pollutants, cleans and regenerates itself.
CARE
With loving handling and regular care, a Kelim from Wild Heart Free Soul still looks as good as new after many years of use. Real kilims can thus last for several generations.
Our kilims do not require much care, but the right kind. A kilim should be regularly and gently vacuumed or beaten. Stains can always be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be easily scraped off or brushed out when dry.
A kilim should not remain wet for long, because it can warp.
Sheep's wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn, which consists of long fibers and has a very high lanolin (wool grease) content. Therefore, we do not recommend washing them yourself. If you feel the need to have your kilim washed, please contact a professional, trustworthy carpet cleaner or us. We offer discounted rates for carpet cleaning and restoration for Wild Heart Free Soul customers.
