Vintage Kilim Rug 120x75cm
This original vintage kilim was hand-woven in Anatolia in the second half of the 20th century by a nomad woman. It's made of hand spun, naturally dyed sheep wool. Before starting the weaving, the artist was sheering her sheep, cleaning, combing and spinning the wool to have the best yarn for her kilim. After spinning the wool she was dying it in a complex process with natural dyes. This whole process could take one year or even longer.
This woven piece of art is one-of-a-kind and was made for self use. Nomads and farmers were using their kilims as rugs on the floor, as tent or wall hangings, as covers or transportation bags. The pattern and symbols on kilims always have special meanings. They are standing for protection, blessings, abundance or the unity of lovers.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS
All our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep's wool yarn is hand-spun and dyed. Due to the high lanolin content, the high-quality wool shines particularly beautifully. A sheen that cannot be achieved with industrially manufactured yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim is hand-woven on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually takes several months or even over a year.
CLEANING AND RESTORATION
Our cleaning process takes place cyclically, in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned only once a year at the beginning of summer. For this, we use only water and pure olive soap. Afterwards, we work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Anatolia between June and September bleaches out stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Through the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals.
Finally, our kilims are mechanically beaten and then sent to Istanbul. In our atelier in Istanbul, each carpet is individually stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted with the technique of the Turkish knot so that the fabric does not unravel. Sheep's wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn, which consists of long fibers and has a very high lanolin (wool grease) content. This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent, and antibacterial.
Sheep's wool is also a living material, meaning that with use and the influence of sun, air, and water, it becomes softer and shinier over the years. It is a material that ages beautifully, is absolutely environmentally friendly and chemical-free, and cleans and regenerates itself.
Care
With loving treatment and regular care, a Kelim from Wild Heart Free Soul will still look good after 20-30 years and can therefore survive several generations.
Our Kelims do not require a lot of care, but the right kind. A Kelim should be regularly and carefully vacuumed or beaten out. Stains can always be cleaned quickly with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be simply scraped off or brushed out when dry.
However, a Kelim should not remain wet for long, as it can warp. Therefore, we do not recommend washing it yourself. If you feel the need to wash your Kelim, please contact us
