Mystical Power Rug from the Heart of Anatolia
This generous vintage kilim originates from the Afyon region – a place whose name is derived from the word “opium” (Turkish: afyon). Yet, far beyond this association, Afyon is a mystical place of transitions: between East and West, dream and wakefulness, earth and spirit. The landscape is characterized by volcanic rock, hot springs, and ancient trade routes – a land that carries stories and nourishes powers.

Crafted in the 1960s by nomadic weavers, this kilim was not made for the market, but as an expression of creative identity. Woven from 100% hand-spun sheep's wool, it unites spiritual depth with colorful life energy.

Elibelinde – the Woven Hymn to Femininity

This kilim is an all-over composition of the Elibelinde motif – a rhythmic, almost ecstatic celebration of female creative power. Elibelinde means “hands on hips” and has symbolized fertility, trust, and creative power for millennia. Here, the symbol appears in dozens of variations – powerful, vibrant, self-assured. A rug like a mantra.

The Elibelinde pattern is complemented by other archetypal symbols:

  • Çengel (Double Hook): Connection of opposites, balance, and stability
  • Bukağı (Fetter): Reminder of commitment, responsibility, and belonging
  • Su Yolu (Waterway): Symbol of the constant flow of life
  • Kuş (Bird): Freedom, spirit, message from other worlds
