Gunta Stölzl: A Masterpiece of Bauhaus Textile Art Brought to Life
As the only female master at the Bauhaus, textile artist Gunta Stölzl had an unparalleled influence on the modern history of Western weaving. Under her leadership, the Bauhaus weaving workshop transformed from a neglected area into one of its most successful institutions. During her tenure, she shifted the focus from pictorial work to industrially oriented designs. In doing so, she introduced radical ideas from the modern art world into weaving and initiated experiments with materials and methods that brought weaving into the modern age.
This exclusive rug was faithfully crafted based on a design by Gunta Stölzl from 1923. In close collaboration with Gunta Stölzl's estate, this artistic rug was hand-woven in Turkey. A true masterpiece embodying Gunta Stölzl's historical artistry and visionary design, it is available in a strictly limited edition of only 10 pieces.
Care Instructions for Hand-Woven Kilim Rugs Made from Sheep Wool
Hand-woven Kilim rugs are not only works of art but also durable pieces of furniture if properly cared for. The natural sheep wool they are made from gives them a unique structure and feel. With the following care tips, your Kilim will remain beautiful for many years:
-
Regular Vacuuming: Use a vacuum cleaner without a brush attachment to carefully vacuum your Kilim once a week. This removes dust and small particles and refreshes the wool.
-
Turning: Turn your Kilim every few months so that both sides wear evenly and the colors fade uniformly.
-
Stain Removal: For small stains, act quickly. Dab the stain with a clean, damp cloth without rubbing. If necessary, use a mild soap solution and rinse the area with clear water. Blot with a dry cloth and allow the area to dry completely.
-
Avoid Direct Sunlight: Excessive sunlight can cause the colors of your Kilim to fade. Place it in a location where it is not constantly exposed to direct sunlight.
-
Annual Professional Cleaning: Depending on use and location, it may be advisable to have your Kilim professionally cleaned once a year to maintain its beauty and longevity.
-
Storage: If you want to store your Kilim for an extended period, roll it (instead of folding it) and store it in a cool, dry place. Use moth repellents to ward off pests.
With these care tips, your hand-woven sheep wool Kilim will remain an eye-catcher for a long time and enrich your home with its natural beauty and craftsmanship.
