The traditional and timeless patterns of Anatolia make our vintage pillows something very special. They are the meaningful symbols of a millennia-old nomadic tradition that are intended to bring love, blessings and protection to the home and its inhabitants.
High-quality materials such as hand-spun sheep's wool, goat hair or cotton ensure a high-quality, long-lasting product.
This cushion cover was sewn with love in our Wild Heart Free Soul studio in Istanbul from a fragment of a handwoven vintage kilim. The kilim was professionally cleaned before further processing, however age-related wear and natural irregularities are inevitable in unique, handcrafted vintage rugs. The back is made of recycled cotton and has a zipper.
REGION OF ORIGIN
Central Anatolia
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
All of our vintage kilims and carpets are completely handmade. The sheep's wool yarn was spun and dyed by hand. The high lanolin content gives the high-quality sheep's wool a particularly beautiful shine. After the time-consuming production of the yarn, the kilim was woven by hand on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually took several months, sometimes even over a year.
CLEANING AND RESTORATION
Our cleaning process is cyclical and in harmony with nature. Our carpets are only cleaned once a year at the beginning of summer. We only use water and pure olive soap for this. We then work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Antalya between June and September bleaches stubborn stains and discoloration, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Thanks to the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals. Our kilims are then mechanically dusted and sent to Istanbul. In our studio in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually pulled into shape, the ends are re-knotted, holes and discolored areas are reconstructed true to the original. The entire cleaning and restoration process takes between six months and two years, depending on the carpet.
MATERIAL
Sheep's wool is a natural and high-quality material. All of our vintage and antique carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn. This wool is tear-resistant and has a high proportion of lanolin (wool fat). This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent and antibacterial. Sheep's wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years through use and the influence of sun, air and water. A material that ages beautifully, is completely environmentally friendly and free of harmful substances, cleans and regenerates itself.
CARE
With loving treatment and regular care, a kilim from Wild Heart Free Soul will look like it did on the first day even after many years of use. Real kilims therefore last for several generations. Our kilims require little but proper care. A kilim should be carefully vacuumed or beaten regularly. Stains can almost always be removed with a slightly damp cloth. Food residue can be easily scraped off or brushed off when it is dry. A kilim should not be left wet for long because this can cause it to warp. We therefore do not recommend washing it yourself. If you feel the need to give your kilim a wash, please contact a trustworthy carpet cleaner or us. We offer our customers discounted rates for carpet cleaning and restoration.
