REGION OF ORIGIN

Tavas is a village in Denizli Province in Western Anatolia. Kilim from this region are as colorful and cheerful as the people in this region.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

All of our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep's wool yarn was spun and dyed by hand. The high-quality sheep's wool has a particularly beautiful shine thanks to its high lanolin content. A shine that cannot be achieved with industrially manufactured yarn. After the yarn was painstakingly produced, the kilim was woven by hand on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually took several months and sometimes even over a year.

CLEANING AND RESTORATION

Our cleaning process takes place cyclically and in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned once a year at the beginning of the summer months. We only use water and pure olive soap and use the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Antalya between June and September bleaches stubborn stains and discoloration, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths away. Thanks to the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals.

Our kilims are then mechanically dusted and sent to Istanbul. In our studio in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted using the Iranian knot technique, and holes and discolored areas are restored true to the original. The complete cleaning and restoration process takes between six months and two years, depending on the kilim.
