Region of origin

The Barak Turkmen are a nomadic people and were one of the first nomadic clans of Turkish origin. About 100 years ago, some of the Barak nomads were resettled from the region around Gaziantep, in the southeast of Turkey, to the southwest. They settled in the Akdag Mountains above Kas. After their resettlement between 1940 and 1980, the women of this clan wove kilims with special patterns and colors that are very characteristic and can only be found in this region. Today they are called “Barak kilim” and are a rarity.

Manufacturing process

Our vintage kilim rugs are handmade. The wool yarn used for our vintage rugs is hand-spun and hand-dyed. Woven from the finest, pure hand-spun sheep's wool, hand-dyed in bold, cheerful colors. Due to the high lanolin content, the sheep's wool has a particularly beautiful shine. A shine that cannot be achieved with industrially manufactured yarn.

Cleaning and restoration

Our cleaning process takes place cyclically and in harmony with nature. We only clean once a year at the beginning of summer. Our carpets are cleaned once a year at the beginning of the summer months. We use exclusively

I water and pure olive soap. We then work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in the summer months of June-September bleaches stubborn stains and discoloration, removes odors and keeps moths away. Thanks to the power of nature, we can completely avoid aggressive and environmentally harmful chemicals.

Our kilims are then mechanically dusted, stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted and holes are re-woven.
