WEAVING EXPERIENCE: 40 years
INSPIRATION FOR THE WORK: Our world is moving towards the unknown, marked by wars, unconscious consumption of natural resources, human indifference and natural disasters. In this design I wanted to highlight this issue by choosing not to weave the ocean in blue or the continents in green, but in a bold black.
WHAT DO KILIMS MEAN TO YOU? Kilims are now used as decoration. For me, however, they represent the prayer rug my grandfather prayed on, the kilim my mother used when baking bread, and the bag into which my sister poured her emotions. They also symbolize the kilims that were used to wrap the deceased on their journey to the cemetery. In other words, kilims have accompanied us from birth to death.
