WEAVING EXPERIENCE: 40 years
INSPIRATION FOR THE PIECE: Our world is moving towards the unknown, marked by wars, unconscious consumption of natural resources, human indifference, and natural disasters. In this design, I wanted to highlight this issue by choosing to weave the ocean not in blue or the continents not in green, but in a bold black.
WHAT DO KILIMS MEAN TO YOU? Kilims are used as decoration nowadays. However, for me, they represent the prayer rug my grandfather prayed on, the kilim my mother used while baking bread, and the bag into which my sister poured her emotions. They also symbolize the kilims used to wrap the deceased on their journey to the cemetery. In other words, kilims have accompanied us from birth to death.

Crafted in the heart of Ushak, in a carefully restored Ottoman building, this artwork reflects the vision of the Kirkit weaving mill: preserving traditional weaving for future generations and providing fair working conditions for the weavers. A dedicated team of experts, including a fourth-generation master dyer and a production manager with extensive knowledge in weaving, ensures that every piece of art meets the highest quality standards.
