Vintage Kilim Anatolian 325x226cm
This original Kilim was hand-woven in Anatolia. It's made of hand spun, naturally dyed sheep wool. Before starting the weaving, the artist was shearing her sheep, cleaning, combing and spinning the wool to have the best yarn for her kilim. After spinning the wool she was dyeing it in a complex process with natural dyes. This whole process could take one year or even longer.
This woven piece of art is one-of-a-kind and was made for self use. Nomads and farmers were using their kilims as rugs on the floor, as tent or wall hangings, as covers or transportation bags. The pattern and symbols on kilims always have special meanings. They stand for protection, blessings, abundance or the unity of lovers.
All Wild Heart Free Soul kilims are cleaned naturally and restored professionally under our guidance and control. We guarantee authenticity, high quality and fair trade.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS
All our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep wool yarn was hand-spun and dyed. Due to its high lanolin content, the high-quality sheep wool has a particularly beautiful sheen, which cannot be achieved with industrially produced yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim was hand-woven on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually took several months, sometimes even over a year.
CLEANING AND RESTORATION
Our cleaning process is cyclical, in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned only once a year at the beginning of summer. For this, we use only water and pure olive soap. Afterwards, we use the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Antalya between June and September bleaches out stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial, and keeps moths and insects away. Through the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals.
Subsequently, our kilims are mechanically dusted and sent to Istanbul. In our atelier in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted using the Iranian knot technique so that the weave cannot unravel. In addition, holes and discolored areas are faithfully restored. The entire cleaning and restoration process takes between six months to two years, depending on the kilim.
Material
Sheep's wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our rugs are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn, which consists of long hairs and has a very high lanolin (wool grease) content. This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent and antibacterial.
Sheep's wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years with use and the influence of sun, air and water. A material that ages beautifully, is absolutely environmentally friendly and free of harmful substances, cleans and regenerates itself.
CARE
With loving care and regular maintenance, a kilim from Wild Heart Free Soul will look like new even after many years of use. Real kilims can therefore last for several generations.
Our kilims don't require much care, but they do require the right kind. A kilim should be regularly and carefully vacuumed or beaten out. Stains can always be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be simply scraped off or brushed out when dry.
A kilim should not remain wet for long, because it can warp
Sheep's wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn, which consists of long hairs and has a very high proportion of lanolin (wool grease). Therefore, we do not recommend washing it yourself. If you feel the need to wash your kilim, please contact a professional, trustworthy carpet cleaner or us. We offer all Wild Heart Free Soul customers discounted conditions for carpet cleaning and restoration.
