MANUFACTURING PROCESS

All our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep wool yarn is hand-spun and dyed. Due to the high lanolin content, the high-quality wool shines particularly beautifully. A shine that cannot be achieved with industrially produced yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim is hand-woven on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually takes several months, or even over a year.

CLEANING AND RESTORATION

Our cleaning process takes place cyclically, in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned only once a year at the beginning of summer. For this, we use exclusively water and pure olive soap. Afterwards, we work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Anatolia between June and September bleaches out stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Through the power of nature, we can completely dispense with environmentally harmful chemicals.

Finally, our kilims are mechanically beaten and then sent to Istanbul. In our atelier in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted with the technique of the Iranian knot, so that the fabric cannot loosen. Material

Sheep wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep wool yarn, which consists of long hairs and has a very high lanolin (wool grease) content. This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent and antibacterial.

Sheep wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years through use and the influence of sun, air and water. It is a material that ages beautifully, is absolutely environmentally friendly and free of pollutants, and cleans and regenerates itself.

Care

With loving handling and regular care, a Kilim from Wild Heart Free Soul will still look like new after 20-30 years and can thus be passed down through several generations.

Our kilims do not require much care, but the right kind of care. A kilim should be regularly and carefully vacuumed or beaten out. Stains should always be cleaned immediately with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be easily scraped off or brushed out when dry.
