MANUFACTURING PROCESS

All our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep wool yarn is hand-spun and dyed. Due to the high lanolin content, the high-quality wool has a beautiful sheen. A luster that cannot be achieved with industrially produced yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim is hand-woven on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually takes several months, sometimes even over a year.

CLEANING AND RESTORATION

Our cleaning process takes place cyclically, in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned only once a year at the beginning of summer. For this, we use only water and pure olive soap. Afterwards, we work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Anatolia between June and September bleaches out stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Through the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals.

Finally, our kilims are mechanically beaten and then sent to Istanbul. In our atelier in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually shaped, the ends are re-knotted with the technique of the Turkish knot, so that the weave cannot unravel. Material

Sheep's wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn, which consists of long hairs and has a very high lanolin (wool grease) content. This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent, and antibacterial.

Sheep's wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years through use and the influence of sun, air, and water. A material that ages beautifully, is completely environmentally friendly and free of pollutants, and cleans and regenerates itself.

Care

With loving treatment and regular care, a Wild Heart Free Soul kilim will still look like new after 20-30 years and can thus last for several generations.

Our kilims do not require a lot of care, but the right kind. A kilim should be vacuumed regularly and gently or beaten out. Stains can always be removed with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be easily scraped off or brushed out when dry.

However, a kilim should not remain wet for long, as it can warp. Therefore, we do not recommend washing it yourself. If you feel the need to give your kilim a wash, please contact us.
