MANUFACTURING PROCESS

All our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep wool yarn is hand-spun and dyed. Due to the high lanolin content, the high-quality wool shines beautifully. A luster that cannot be achieved with industrially produced yarn. After the elaborate production of the yarn, the kilim is hand-woven on a traditional wooden loom. This process often takes several months, sometimes even over a year.

CLEANING AND RESTORATION

Our cleaning process takes place cyclically, in harmony with nature.
Our carpets are cleaned only once a year at the beginning of summer. For this, we use only water and pure olive soap. Afterwards, we work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Anatolia between June and September bleaches stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Thanks to the power of nature, we can completely do without environmentally harmful chemicals.

Finally, our kilims are mechanically beaten and then sent to Istanbul. In our atelier in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually stretched into shape, the ends are re-knotted using the technique of the Iranian knot, so that the fabric cannot come loose. Material

Sheep's wool is a natural and very high-quality material. All our carpets are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn, which consists of long hairs and has a very high lanolin content (wool grease). This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent and antibacterial.

Sheep's wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years with use and the influence of sun, air and water. It is a material that ages gracefully, is absolutely environmentally friendly and free of pollutants, and cleans and regenerates itself.

Care

With loving care and regular maintenance, a Kelim from Wild Heart Free Soul will still look like new after 20-30 years and can thus last for several generations.

Our kilims do not require much care, but the right kind. A kilim should be regularly and carefully vacuumed or beaten out. Stains can always be cleaned quickly with a slightly damp cloth. Food residues can be easily scraped off or brushed out in a dry state.
